While submitting a question to Dear Ms. Smartphone, we ask you to provide us with personally identifiable information. Personally identifiable information may include, but is not limited to your name and email address. We ask for this information so that we can respond to your questions appropriately, and know you are a real person and you are not spamming us. If you like, we will use a pseudonym (a pen name) to guard your identity. When you submit a question, we log your question address into a secure spreadsheet. We may shorten or rewrite your question for legibility.
When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection. An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it.
